Cleaning the Coast, One Bag at a Time
On July 19, 2025, our youth team rolled up their sleeves and joined the Pacific Beach Coalition for a community beach clean-up that blended purpose with camaraderie. From high schoolers to recent graduates, our 10-person team brought energy, teamwork, and a shared mission: to care for the planet—together.
The day began with a warm welcome and a brief introduction on the importance of coastal clean-up efforts and sustainable living. Equipped with gloves, bags, and tools, volunteers were divided into smaller teams and sent off to sweep the sand. For the next two hours, we combed the shore for litter—each piece collected a small act of restoration.
As the cleanup wrapped up, the collected waste was sorted, weighed, and reflected on. Participants shared stories, thoughts, and the small surprises found along the shoreline. One attendee captured the spirit of the day perfectly:
“It felt great to do something good for the environment with friends.”
The event wasn’t just about trash bags and teamwork—it was a statement of environmental responsibility and a moment of collective growth. It helped spark new conversations about sustainability, inspired our team to consider future initiatives, and strengthened our connection to the broader community.
We’re proud to support the Pacific Beach Coalition’s work and plan to attend more of their events going forward. We’re even exploring the possibility of organizing clean-ups of our own.
At BAYCC, we believe youth-led environmental action is a powerful tool for change—and on this day, that belief was alive and well, one piece of litter at a time.
